Easter Reflection

“If yowere arrested for being a Christian would there be enough evidence to convict you?”. . .

In the movie The Passion there is a scene just as Jesus dies on the cross. A single droplet of water is seen falling from the sky. As it hits the ground around the cross of Jesus

that singular droplet turns into a tidal wave washing over the earth. This  scene is making a visual connection between Jesus’ death on the cross and the sacrament of Baptism. In the waters of Baptism we die with Christ and are washed with the forgiving love of the Father. This scene from The Passion symbolizes the meaning of Christ’s death and the response of the Father to Jesus’ request from the cross: “Father, forgive them they know not what they do.” The Father’s tear of love for His Son is His “Yes” to His Son’s request to forgive us. His loving tear for His Son washes over all who accept what the Father’s Son has done for us.

During the seven weeks of the Easter season you are encouraged to spend time reflecting upon “the Father’s tear” washing over you. You have been washed in the Father’s forgiving love, a love requested for you from the cross by His Son Christ Jesus. Reflect upon your Baptism into Christ’s life and the forgiveness granted to you by the Father. What impact does your Baptism have upon you? How are you living your life differently from others who are not baptized? What challenges have you faced as a result of following Christ?

To assist in this reflection you might ask yourself one other question “If you were arrested for being a Christian would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

When a Christian knows he or she has been forgiven and lives out that forgiveness each day, then the evidence mounts up.
